What changed, and when?
Named values and ordered updates retain the history behind the current answer.

RESEARCH ATLAS / context
A statement may be clear and still be missing something essential. Context is the information a particular task needs to distinguish the right outcome from the wrong one.
WHY CONTEXT MATTERS
“Use the latest value” depends on which record, whose revision and when it changed. A useful system makes those distinctions visible instead of silently guessing.
Named values and ordered updates retain the history behind the current answer.
If two situations need different outcomes, a representation must distinguish them.
A wrong result may come from missing context or from using available information incorrectly. They need different remedies.
02 / TRY THE DISTINCTION
In this seven-by-seven world, a contextual shift moves left or right according to a sign, h. Keep that sign—or compress it away—and compare the two paths.
The representation keeps (x, y, h). Both paths have the sign they need.
Position (2, 2)
Position (2, 2)
An exact mathematical illustration, not a learned-model result. Coordinates wrap modulo 7; y starts at 2. After dropping h, the coarse rule assumes +1. Try both signs: no single position-only rule can reproduce both contextual futures.
READING THE EXAMPLE
The example above is an exact arithmetic model. Its direction sign changes an operation’s result; removing that sign can make different situations look identical.
The contextual shift maps x to x+h modulo 7. Two states with the same position and opposite signs have different futures.
The illustration tests final position in a known finite world. A failed learned operator does not by itself prove missing context.
This illustrates one reason context matters. It does not prove that every model error needs another dimension or more data.
